Kindergarten Transition Program

Starting school is a big step, and at SHARE, we understand how important it is for children and their families to feel supported during this transition. Our Kindergarten Transition Program is designed to provide structure, care, and a sense of belonging, all informed by the My Time, Our Place framework and the Early Years Learning Framework (Belonging, Being & Becoming).

We have tailored our approach to meet the unique needs of Kindergarten students, ensuring their experience is not only safe and supportive but also filled with opportunities to grow, explore, and thrive in their new environment.

Our Morning Routine

Our mornings are designed to provide a relaxed and positive start for children. At SHARE, Kindergarten students are welcomed with breakfast, quiet activities, and the option to enjoy outdoor equipment play. These calm and familiar routines help children ease into their day.

Before school begins, our educators accompany the children on the walk to Summer Hill Public School. We help them drop off their bags and guide them to their lines. For Kindergarten students in Term 1 and 2, we stay with them until the bell rings, providing an extra layer of reassurance as they adjust to their new school environment.

Our Afternoon Routine

After school, our educators meet Kindergarten students in their classrooms and guide them to the COLA to mark attendance. Wearing high-visibility vests, we walk them safely to SHARE. Upon arrival, the children are introduced to their play areas, and boundaries are clearly explained to help them feel secure and confident.

For Term 1, a special Kindy-only table is set up for afternoon tea, giving them a chance to recharge in a familiar setting before joining group activities or outdoor play. This dedicated space helps ease their transition into the SHARE community while fostering connections with peers.

A tailored approach for each child

We know that every child’s transition to Kindergarten is unique. At SHARE, we focus on understanding each child’s individual needs and building strong relationships with families. Open communication allows us to provide personalised support, whether that’s offering extra reassurance, encouraging new friendships, or helping a shy child settle into their routine.

Meet our Kindergarten Leaders

Our 2025 Kindergarten Leaders — Luca, Sonas, Sean, and Isabella — are at the heart of our transition program. Their role is to provide consistent, hands-on support that helps children navigate this exciting and sometimes challenging new stage. With their extensive experience and genuine care, they build trust with each child, offering guidance, reassurance, and a welcoming presence throughout the day.

Our leaders also prioritise building connections with families, ensuring open communication so every child’s unique needs are met. From setting clear boundaries to fostering a sense of belonging, they create an environment where Kindergarten students feel safe, valued, and ready to thrive at SHARE. Their thoughtful and attentive approach makes a meaningful difference in helping each child settle in and feel confident in their new routine.
